Lo-lin Loves Holidays

Helen of Egypt

Raleigh's class gave a play performancefor for parents before winter break. Related to their social studies' topic --the Ancient Egypt, the play was called "Helen of Egypt," telling a different version of the Helen of Troy epic. According to the Egyptians, Helen had never arrived in Troy, but, instead, stayed in Egypt with her kidnapper, Paris, prince of Troy, before returning to her own country.
Don't you just love Raleigh's Helen in her make-up, costume, and, of course, glasses? Who needed a thousand ships to be launched? Applauses from nearly one hundred parents, teachers and schoolmates were just fantastic.

Raleigh's Basketball Training 洛麗的籃球訓練

Raleigh has joined a six-week basketball training program. Two practices and one competition every week, quite demanding. Hopefully it will help her grow taller faster.

小麗參加的籃球隊每週練習兩次, 比賽一次, 總共六週課程. 我最希望她藉機趕快長高.

My Media Lab Students 我與媒體製作課的學生

Twenty-six students attended the Media Production Lab I taught last semester -- sixteen girls and guys in the first section and ten guys in the second. Each section met for 90 minutes twice a week. At the end of the class, each student finished a final reel containing four projects they have done throughout the lab: music video, animation, one shot/three soundtracks, and self-portrait. Half way through the semester, the class faced a challenge: switching to Final Cut Pro 5 from an older version of the editing program and using the new iMac that were just shipped in and installed. It was a rather smooth and welcomed transition, though.

Many of the students have had media production experiences while others were just beginners. Scott and Bryan were already independent filmmakers who have demonstrated their talent in several films now in the market. Randy and Dean were active participants in UI TV, and Hillary and Annie were interning at television stations. While some were just getting interested in media production, many of their peers were already on their ways to builing a future career in the industry.
Many of these fun and ambitious guys and gals will be in my TV Production class next semester.
